Karijini 2020 Trip - WA at it's "Gorgeous" best

Well, I will start by saying that no photo or video can do this part of the Pilbara justice. It just can't. When you physically stand in these gorges the sense of awe is palpable, and leaves you with no doubt about the immense power behind it's creation.

Wow, can't believe we are actually here!
Wow! We made it to the famed Pilbara. Betty the faithful Trailblazer looks on...

A (very) common sight up North; 4-Trailer Road Trains. Not so bad on the tarmac, but man can they be daunting when they approach at 80km/h on a dusty outback road (which is also very common). My advice; just pull over and let it pass.

Sadly, this is something else you will see North of Cue/Mt Magnet. Lots of Wedge Tail eagles killed while eating dead Roo's (or similar) on the road.
..and this was a small, juvenile bird...
A large dump truck parked at the Southern entrance to Newman. Very impressive!

Wokalup Easter Camp (2 nights, 3 days)

During the Easter break we were invited to stay on the Weimann farm (thanks all), and as usual it was good for the mind, body and soul. If we ever had the opportunity, we would buy such a block in a flash! When you camp out here, drive in the bush and sit under the stars, you just know we were not really built for the city; not South-African or West-Aussies anyway.

Camping and 4WD'ing is huge here in WA, and our community loves it. Can't wait to get back out into the bush...

A warm campfire in the bush; pure bliss.

Heading out...

All-aboard Kenny's bakkie to go fetch some firewood.

Our beautiful daughters ;-)

The camp just before we moved to the fire-pit.

Kenny testing the Axial Deadbolt rock crawler. Cool!
Morache had the controls not long after, haha.

There are several starry-sky photo's below, simply because
they are so visible & beautiful out in the bush.

Brekkie time.

Eugene's driving a car for the first time in his life. Proud that it was in a 4WD and in the bush.
Karla also drove, but being a wild-child, I dare not post those photo's here (speelgat...)

Can you see the Milky Way?

Yep, an inordonate number of photo's of the truck.
Love it; have never bonded with a car like this before :-)

Day 2 - In the bush sawing some fallen trees, fixing the fence line and stocking the shed for the Donkey.

The wood-fired Donkey boiler shower.
This must be the best shower in the world, bar-none.
There is nothing like showering in the cool morning or evening air, with no roof,
while the heat from the boiler keeps the chill at bay. Love, love, love it.

A Wolf Spider, near its nest (left), carrying thousands of baby spiders on his/her back.

An Orb Weaver chilling out during the day. They spin their web at dusk.

The Rock Garden, (which is behind me; see below) where we took Kenny's Axial for a spin.
We then followed with the real thing about 30 minutes later.
Glad to report that the Trailblazer made it up and down with no fuss. Me = Happy.

The Rock Garden.

Eugene sleeping on the drive home. Exhausted, but happy.

Tony's Bend Camping - Nanga Brook, W.A.

Had a truly great weekend camping with some mates. We left early on Friday, pitched the tents and lit the fire. Soon we had a new Aussie mate too (Greg) who later joined us for dinner. Good bloke.

Yep, we were only staying one night, but this is what the bakkie looked like. Woes.

Quick stop in Dwellingup to text Gerhard, Willem and Simon.

Just a quick "chill" before we put up the tents. The fire is going, so Nickey was happy.

The fire is getting ever-bigger and my swag is starting to go up (background of the Gazebo).

Cornelius, Nicky, Greg (our new Aussie mate), Louis and I.

Tents being completed (two image pano).

Die Baas ;-)

Cornelius made it before sunset, and now we were really starting to chill-out.

Me at left preparing the braai-broodjies (with Apricot jam, ja).

It was getting quite dark, and Gerhard, Willem and Simon were nowhere to be seen.
Soon after this shot Louis and Nickey left to find them. No mobile reception; zero.

It was a spectacular windless evening. This photo is a 30-second exposure up into the trees and moon.

Steaks on the braai. This is an ISO6400 shot, thus the speckles of noise. Still, nice atmosphere in the photo.
The three young men had also rolled up at this stage.

Lekker man, lekker!

Starting the fire and getting ready to make breakfast on Saturday morning.

Pano of the camp.

Our resident wild man (wille pil), Nickey, munching on a T-bone for brekkie.

Die De Klerk broers maak bacon en roer-eiers. Was baie lekker!

Pa en seuns.

Almal se pense is lekker vol, en Willem skrik (?!) vir iets, haha!

Kleilat,....ek het dit seker 20+ jaar laas gesien!

Nickey (out of shot) throwing water at Willem....
