Karla went shopping with friends at Watertown yesterday, so we (Karin, Eugene and I) decided to visit the new Elizabeth Quay. Very nice! There were also some Christmas markets on, so we could wander through and look at all manner of hand-made craft. Some of the wood carvings were very impressive.
The Quay itself is also coming along nicely, with the two big new hotels still at the early (foundation) stage, but in about a year they'll likely be up and finished. In many ways it will have that Darling Harbour feel, just smaller ;-)
Still, I was initially sceptical, but think this new district may well encourage more tourist traffic in the CBD.
PS: Perth is still a very beautiful spot. Keeps impressing us year-after-year.
PSS: It reached 40 degrees yesterday, so probably not the ideal day for outdoor markets, BUT the doctor* was in, so it was quite OK.
* "The Doctor" = the local sea-breeze that normally kicks in on hot days to save us from the very hot days you get her. Just occasionally it does not blow, which means we all stay inside with the A/C on!

One of the play parks in the area. Gene may have played longer, but it was pretty warm. |
