Koeksisters - Baking a full batch from the NG Kerk recipe

So, today I had a big mouth and told Karin I reckon we should bake a full batch of koeksisters (sweet South African delicacy) from the Dutch Reformed Church recipe. BIIIGGGG MISTAKE! We started at 9am and finished at 3pm. Our feet were sore, our shoulders aching and to top things of it was 34 deg.C  today.

Let's just say all our SA family and friends will "like" us for weeks to come with these beauties in the freezer. Man, they taste good!

The main reason for making these are for my cousin Natalie's wedding this arvo. Sort of a gift from Africa, but fried in West Oz!

The end product - Crispy, sweet and ice-cold.

Frying the dough-plats until golden brown...

...then soaking them in a secret sauce before draining them...

Early in the morning. We are still smiling; we did not know what was waiting for us, haha!

Some (around a quarter) of the dough-plats we made today, waiting to go into the fryer.
